How much does rendering cost?
Rendering costs £45 to £75 per square metre including scaffold, and £60 to £95 for a silicone or monocouche system. Scaffold alone is £700 to £1,400 for a semi. Hacking off failed render adds £15 to £30 per square metre before anything new goes on.

Get the scaffold priced separately and stated on the quote. It is the largest single line on most render jobs and the one most often left vague, and if you are having other outside work done it may be worth sharing.
What moves the price
- Scaffold. A fixed cost whatever the area, which changes the economics of doing one elevation against doing the whole house at once.
- What is already on the wall. Rendering over sound render is far cheaper than hacking off back to brick and starting again.
- Which system. Sand and cement is cheapest; monocouche and silicone thin-coat cost more and do not need painting afterwards.
- Height and access. A three storey gable, a conservatory in the way or a boundary too tight for scaffold all add.
- Detailing. Beads, drips, sills and the joints around windows are where the labour is, so a wall with eight windows is not the same as a blank gable.

Questions about rendering
Can you render over pebbledash?
Yes, if the pebbledash is sound and well keyed. Tap it first: anything hollow has to come off, and if enough of it is hollow you are hacking the lot and pricing a different job.
Can I render in winter?
Not in frost, and not in driving rain. Cement render needs to be above about five degrees to cure, and a frost on a green render will ruin it. Most renderers work March to October and watch the forecast.
