How much do ceiling roses and mouldings cost?
A plaster ceiling rose costs £120 to £320 supplied and fitted. A large or deeply enriched pattern runs to £450. Casting a replacement section from an original is quoted per job and starts around £250.

Tell the electrician before the rose goes up. The flex has to pass through the centre and the fitting has to sit clear of the moulding, and sorting that afterwards means taking it down.
What moves the price
- Diameter and depth of enrichment, which is most of the material cost.
- Whether it is a stock pattern or a cast taken from an existing one.
- Ceiling height and access, since all of it is done overhead.
- Whether the ceiling is being skimmed at the same time, because fitting into fresh plaster is easier than into old.
- Electrical coordination, because the flex has to come through and the fitting has to clear the moulding.

Does the electrician or the plasterer fit it?
The plasterer fits the rose and the electrician deals with the flex and the fitting. The order matters: the rose goes up first with the flex pulled through, and the light goes on last.
Are plaster or polyurethane roses better?
Plaster is heavier, crisper in the detail and is what the original would have been. Polyurethane is cheaper, lighter and easier to fit, and looks it under a raking light. In a period room the difference shows.
