About WS Plasters
WS Plasters is a plastering business in Godalming that applies tadelakt, clay, polished plaster and micro cement. The business works with lime plaster finishes including marmorino and tadelakt, which have been used in building for nearly 2000 years. Tadelakt is applied to bathrooms and chimney breasts, and micro cement is applied to shower rooms.
The application process involves several stages. Limestone is heated in a kiln at over 1000 degrees Celsius to create quicklime, a white powder. Fine grains are added to the quicklime to govern the final finish, with sand grains creating a matt look and ground marble producing a high shine effect. Ground particles of colour are mixed with water and added to the lime powder as a pigment dye. During application, the plaster can be burnished, textured, polished and embellished. Two coats of beeswax are applied at the final stage to protect the plaster and complete the natural process.
