Artisan Plastering

About Artisan Plastering

Artisan Plastering is a heritage lime plastering business based in Ashington, Northumberland. It specialises in lime plasterwork for historic, listed and traditional properties, carrying out heritage lime plastering, hemp and cork insulated lime systems, lime plaster on wood wool boards, and traditional lath and lime plasterwork. The business is a sub-contractor to the National Trust and works across Northumberland and the North East.

The business began as a general plastering firm covering internal and external plastering, gypsum systems and render finishes. Over time, particularly through sub-contract work with the National Trust on historic properties, the focus shifted toward lime and heritage work. Understanding how gypsum and cement behave on old buildings informs the approach to lime plastering.

Artisan Plastering works alongside conservation architects, heritage surveyors and historic building consultants, as well as directly with private owners of listed and traditional properties. Every project is assessed individually, with materials chosen to be sympathetic to the building and methods applied to respect its age, construction and character. The business is an approved contractor for cork insulated lime plastering systems, one of very few in the UK. Work begins with a site visit to assess what the building needs and recommend the right approach before any work starts. The business holds advanced City and Guilds qualifications and is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
