About All Things Lime
All Things Lime is a plastering business based in Reading, specialising in lime plastering, pointing and associated crafts using traditional materials and methods. The business carries out lime plaster and render work on historic and traditional buildings, and also produces lime mortars for pointing. Services listed include work with slaked lime putty, hydraulic lime in various grades, and glister, a mixture of glass and recycled glass for plaster and renders. Lime products are vapour permeable, allowing moisture to pass through and helping prevent condensation and damp. Lime is flexible and allows small movement within walls; even small cracks can self-heal. In winter, frost damage occurs in the mortar itself rather than in more expensive bricks or blocks.
The business covers Reading and surrounding areas. All Things Lime was established by a tradesman who trained in the Czech Republic, completing a national diploma in wet trades including plastering, bricklaying and tiling. He moved to the UK in 2004 and has brought Czech and English plastering tools and techniques to lime work. The business has over 20 years' experience in the building industry. Work begins with a visit to assess the building and discuss requirements. Lime putty can be made on site by slaking quicklime in water, then blending it with aggregate to make plaster or mortar, or diluting it to make limewash.
